A catheter stopper is a small device used to temporarily close off a urinary catheter, allowing urine to be stored in the bladder. It is often used to mimic normal bladder filling and emptying, and can be particularly useful when training bladder function.
Use of a catheter stopper:
Plugging the catheter: To achieve as normal a bladder filling and emptying as possible, the catheter can be plugged at intervals recommended by the doctor. This means that the catheter is closed with a stopper, and opened when needed to empty the bladder.
Hygiene:
It is important to wash and disinfect your hands both before and after handling the catheter plug to reduce the risk of urinary tract infection. Change the catheter plug regularly according to the healthcare professional's instructions.
